6th December 2008 - Winter
Sun (and a bit of snow!)
My first shot in sun of the Colas 56 on the
Immingham to Washwood Heath was taken at Lockington before chasing it to Burton
on Trent. Unfortunately, as the train approached Burton it switched on to the
loop which put it up against the fence, but I was still happy with the shot.
Then it was off to Ribblehead for 37676 on a tour which we unfortunately missed,
but we did get a Freightliner 66 on a coal which made my day. No, I'm not
suggesting that a 66 even comes close to a 37, but it was sunshine and snow and
I was more than happy to get any loco hauled train in such conditions.
7th December 2008 - GWR
Steam to Melton Mowbray and a Glinty Tractor
Not only was there a steam special heading to
Melton Mowbray behind GWR 'Castle' class 5043 'Earl of Mount Edgcumbe', but
there was also a pair of DRS 37's booked to work from Old Dalby to Derby RTC. I
managed a couple of shots of the 'Castle', but the 37's ran quite late and I
ended up with quite a nice glint shot.
13th December 2008 -
Black 5 Departing from Leicester
A bit of a timewarp moment as an ex LMS Black
5 45407 departed from Leicester with a railtour to Chester. The weather was
complete cack, but the resultant shot could be described as atmospheric!?
27th December 2008 - Fylde
Tramway Society Christmas Tour
The annual FTS Christmas Tour this year used
restored 'Balloon' car 717. Although I had booked to ride the tour, clear blue
skies meant that I opted to chase it in my car and photograph it instead. I then
met up with the rest of the FTS in Fleetwood for the Christmas meal at the North
Euston Hotel. Not only did I get the opportunity to quite a few pictures of 717,
but I also managed a few shots of the Centenary cars working the winter service.
I don't particularly like the Centenary Cars, but it is rumoured that due to
track upgrade work over coming winters, this may well be their last winter of
operation prior to the introduction of 'Supertrams' in 2008. A big thank you to
the FTS for organising this event and to the tram crew for lining up some nice
shots (the pose at Fleetwood with '1' and 'North Station Blackpool' on the
blinds was a nice touch).
29th December 2008 - Cross
Country HST
A pretty random sort of shot of an Arriva XC
HST calling at Tamworth High Level. I was at Tamworth to photograph 56312 on a
railtour, but that was a waste of time as it ran late and it was light by the
time it arrived, so it just looks like a cloudy shot.

A silhouette shot of 'Britannia' 70013 on the
1530 ex Loughborough.
