A few run pasts were made through Haverthwaite station in order to capture the train in
a patch of sunlight at the east end of the station. Before joining the other photographers
there, I asked the organiser if he could start the run pasts from inside the tunnel so that I
could capture the loco bursting out of the tunnel. Although the light wasn't getting in here,
a diagonal shaft of light passed over the top of the loco and highlighted the exhaust which I
quite liked. I always visualised this shot as being suited to black and white, and so it has
proved. Once I had this shot, I joined the others for some sunny action.
