Blackpool Trams 2008

At the start of the year the tramway was closed as the track between Pleasure Beach and Central Pier, Gynn Square and Bispham and at Little Bispham was being relaid. The work should have been complete by Easter, but in the event the tramway could only open between Starr Gate and Cabin for the Easter weekend. By the start of May the entire route was open once more, but with trams not starting operation until after 8am, the bus ruled along the promenade. It appeared that the tramway was in a state of decline despite the recent track relaying, but fears of closure were quashed with the announcement that the tramway would be upgraded into a modern light rail system and the tramway would be changed forever. That was a few years away, so still time to enjoy the old trams for a while yet.
