Blackpool Trams 2009

2009 was the year when the upgrading of the tramway had a big impact for tram enthusiasts. At the start of the illuminations, the section between Pleasure Beach and Starr Gate was closed to allow for the building of the new tram depot and the relaying of track. Then at the end of the illuminations season, the street section in Fleetwood was closed to allow track replacement. Both sections would not re-open until the tramway upgrade was completed in 2012. One of the highlights of the season was the relaunch of the Western Train illuminated tram following a Heritage Lottery funded restoration.
